THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME
We often get asked about how we came up with the name LEMNIS GATE for our game. As it turns out, it has more meaning than it may seem. But how did we get to it? What was our thought process?
• Setting boundaries: With the help of our long time collaborator and brand specialist, David Fuenz, we began with setting the tone by developing a word cloud. This would help us determine which words are used to describe our game and sources of inspiration, which in turn would aid us in generating names that would depict its core essence.
We then set some guidelines to follow:
Mature: the name must resonate with an adult audience and be aligned with the subjects displayed in the game.
Original: it must be a unique name, something creative that is not used for another game.
.com domain available: The domain must be obtainable for the website.
With all this in mind, we began many rounds of brainstorming sessions.
• Defining evaluation criteria: To help evaluate the quality of each proposal, we came up with evaluation criteria based on principles that were the most important to us:
Uniqueness: original and distinctive, which is specific to the brand.
Memorability: easy to remember and creates a strong first impression.
Significance: relevant and in line with the game's promise.
