OUR FAVOURITE GAMES OF 2022!

It’s that time of year again! After another year full of big releases, we’ve had the time to reminisce about our favourites, and present to you what we loved playing in 2022! Here we go 😊

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 ONLINE

Britany: QA Tester

While the story mode has been one of the most impactful games I've experienced, I've come to appreciate the Online counterpart even more. It has a wider variety of Horse breeds/coats to choose from which has been one of my favourite features! Not usually a fan of PvP, but encounters with players in RDR2 felt so memorable and kept me coming back, despite lack of updates to the game. Encouraging Story Mode players to try it at least once!

TINY TINA’S WONDERLANDS

Guillaume: 3D Artist

Always on the lookout for couch-coop games to play with my fiancée! I'm also a big fan of the Borderlands series - so this game was basically made for me! The writing shows more maturity and harkens back to the humor that first got me into the franchise. The progression system has been reworked to be more ‘fantasy’ themed, with even more room for optimizing your character. It has it all! Butt-clenching action, funny jokes, infinite guns, magical shenanigans and stylish art direction.

STRAY

James A.: Game Director & Programmer

it's a really creative and well-executed, immersive escapism experience, and you know... there’s CATS! The developers created such an amazing game where you are unveiling such a dark and interesting futuristic world. It was just a joy to experience that feeling. I'm also a huge Bladerunner fan so that certainly helped! The navigation mechanics and level design we're really well suited to moving like a cat, I was surprised nobody’s tried this before. So kudos for nailing that!

ABZU

James W.: Audio Designer

I've only sat down with it now, but it's my favourite game that I played this year. I generally love games for the environments that we get to drop down in and experience, and then also the puzzles and gameplay associated within those environments. The overall atmosphere and feel is incredibly moving and serene. The light orchestral score by Austin Wintory conjures up familiar feels to his score with Journey, and the game in general fills that same mystical void!

TEAM FIGHT TACTICS

Jasmin: Character Artist

TFT is a deep strategy game where you only need 1 hand to play – nice! Riot did a good job keeping the game alive, fresh, and fun. Its a cool game to play casually with friends on a cold Friday night of winter, or go full try hard mode and up your ranking on a Sunday morning with a nice hot coffee! I love the different playing modes, which allows for shorter or longer games. I especially love the duo mode where you get to share champions and items with your friend but also wins and loses.

TIMBERBORN

Marc: Technical Director & Programmer

Timberborn was, and is, really good! It's a fun city builder with very interesting water dynamics (you build a lot of dams - obviously - among other things,) and you get to play as beavers, which is really cute. It's fun, addictive and an original take on typical city builders. The game is kind of complex without being too overwhelming, so it's a must-play for any fan of builder games. We could say it's a whole new genre: beaverpunk!

I WAS A TEENAGE EXOCOLONIST

Melissa:  Community Developer

This one blew my mind. Narrative-wise, character development is so well done, and the beautifully illustrated art cards you collect during big moments (in place of cutscenes,) are breathtaking coupled with the soundtrack. I don’t normally play deck-builders, but this one sold me! This DND-Esque game felt super nostalgic and after 3 runs, I haven’t even finished one of the possible paths yet - so much to explore still, it’s insanity and I love it!

GOD OF WAR: RAGNARÖK

Vivian: Ceo & Producer

Kratos’ is more buffed than ever, with many attacks and skills that feel satisfying. And of course, it was even more polished and refined than the previous game. It's hard to improve on such a strong original, it's impressive. The performances by the cast were convincing and real, making it easy to lose hours at a time to the story and gameplay - playing aside, if only to find out what happens next on Kratos and Atreus’ journey.
